Our Team and Our Jockeys

No enterprise can be successful without a strong and dedicated team behind them. We are fortunate to have such a team and this page will give you the chance to meet them.

GARREN SKONE -  Assistant Trainer:

Former point to point rider and long standing stable manager who keeps the yard on the ball 24/7.  Special interest off-duty is another kind of horse power - Garren is a keen motor racing fan with his own custom built rally car.

DONAL DEVEREUX: Conditional Jockey

24 year old Donal hails from Wexford. Sadly  sidelined at the moment after an operation on an injured shoulder. He rode his first winners for the stable as an amateur in 2008,  making an  impression  hunter chasing on Take The Stand, winning four times on the veteran chaser. After turning pro, he was riding winners with regularity despite being interrupted by two injuries. First he broke his collarbone, then Donal had a really horrible fall at Doncaster, suffering concussion, cheek and jawbone injuries which kept him out of the saddle for two months.  On his return he promply rode two winners  for the yard on his first two rides back. A steady string of winners has now taken him over the 60 winner mark - so his allowance is now down to the minimum 3 lbs.

EMMA REES - Head Girl:

Hails from Rosemarket from a "horsey" background.  Her Mum was an eventer, who competed at  the Badminton Horse Trials.  Emma clocks up thousands of miles each year driving horses to the races and supervising runners - her favourite part of the job, as well as her regular stable duties and riding work.  Wins countless awards for 'Best Turned Out horse'.

MICKEY BOWEN - Work Rider

16 year old Mickey, after success in pony racing, has just secured his point to point licence, and is keenly anticipating his first season between the flags, with Iron Man a likely ride. Very stylish on the gallops. Mickey is also a dedicated follower of the form-book.

HANNAH BRINKWORTH - Groom
20 year old from Barry, Glamorgan, says she especially likes supervising the horses' visits to the stable spa. Often seen around the lanes doing road-work.

DARRYL CAHILL - Work Rider

Darryl, 19 from Dublin, joined us after completing a jockey course in Kildare.

GINNY DAVIES - Work Rider

22 years old Alan has 7 pointing winners to his name (so far!) and has ridden as an amateur jockey under Rules. Had a role aboard a pony in the latest Robin Hood movie, partly filmed on Pembrokeshire beaches. Raised on his parents farm in nearby Castlemorris.

CHERYL MCDOWELL -Schooling rider

A riding teacher from nearby Clarbeston Road, Cheryl concentrates on schooling horses - and not just the youngsters. "I try to get them to use themselves correctly. Relax, lengthen their backs and their strides"

MARK ROBINSON - Work Rider

17, from the Wirral in Cheshire. First sat on a horse when he was just 3! Had some point to point rides last season, and will apply soon for his amateur licence to race under Rules.

DARACH SKELLY - Work Rider

19, from Limerick in Ireland, Darach has racing in his blood.  Both his father and grandfather were renowned Irish bookmakers. Darach was out hunting at 8 years old. Rode his horse to victory at the local Trecoed point to point this year in his first season pointing over here.

DAVE UNDERWOOD - Work Rider

29 year old Dave is a former successful  former point-to-point jockey, known especially for his strength with strong horses. From neatly named Tally Ho Farm in Llangym.

Our Jockeys

As well as our stable jockeys, we also use various riders depending on who is available, including most frequently:

TOM O'BRIEN
A regular rider for the yard, with over 100 winners on our horses, Tom was sadly forced to sit on the sidelines for almost six months after breaking his leg when thrown in the paddock at Hereford just days after triumphing on stable winner Quattrocento on the Ffos Las opening night. Tom's many friends in Pembrokeshire were thrilled to see him come back to win the Welsh National on Dream Alliance for trainer Philip Hobbs. 22 year old Tom, nephew to the great Irish trainer Aidan, burst on the scene in 2006/7 when set a new record for a conditional jockey riding 107 winners, and was so, so narrowly beaten in the Grand National on Mckelvey in his first ride in the great race.
