Our Team and Our Jockeys

No enterprise can be successful without a strong and dedicated team behind them. We are fortunate to have such a team and this page will give you the chance to meet them.

DONAL DEVEREUX: Jockey

25 year old Donal hails from Wexford in Ireland. He joined the yard as a stable conditional jockey in 2007, and has now passed a career total of 75 wins, thus ending his status as a weight-claiming conditional.  Donal's first winners came as an amateur in 2008 when he won four hunter chases on the veteran Gold Cup runner-up Take The Stand. He turned pro in 2009, and the next season he rode 24 winners before his progressive career was interrupted by two serious injuries - first to his cheek and jawbone, then to his shoulder. Remarkably both his first two rides back from injury were winning ones.

EMMA REES - Head Girl:

Hails from Rosemarket from a "horsey" background.  Her Mum was an eventer, who competed at  the Badminton Horse Trials.  Emma clocks up thousands of miles each year driving horses to the races and supervising runners - her favourite part of the job, as well as her regular stable duties and riding work.  Wins countless awards for 'Best Turned Out horse'.

MICKEY BOWEN - Work Rider

18 year old Mickey, after success in pony racing, has now graduated to a full-time work rider. Very stylish on the gallops. Mickey is also a dedicated follower of the form-book.

HANNAH BRINKWORTH - Work Rider

20 year old from Barry, Glamorgan, says she especially likes supervising the horses' visits to the stable spa. Often seen around the lanes doing road-work.

LINDA EVANS - Work Rider

Lives near Milford Haven. Enjoys riding in thoroughbred charity races, three times finishing 2nd, notably in Aintree's Peoples Race on Grand National day 2008 when she raised £2500 for charity, and recently at Ffos Las on Mumbles Pier.

CHERYL MCDOWELL -Schooling Rider

A riding teacher from nearby Clarbeston Road, Cheryl concentrates on schooling horses - and not just the youngsters. "I try to get them to use themselves correctly. Relax their backs and lengthen their strides"

DAVE UNDERWOOD - Work Rider

29 year old Dave is a former successful  former point-to-point jockey, known especially for his strength with strong horses. From neatly named Tally Ho Farm in Llangym.

Our Jockeys

As well as our stable jockeys, we also use various riders depending on who is available, including most frequently:

TOM O'BRIEN
A regular rider for the yard, with over 100 winners on our horses,  most famously twice winning Aintree's historic Topham Trophy over the National fences on Always Waining. Tom was on the sidelines for almost six months after breaking a leg at Hereford just days after triumphing on stable winner Quattrocento on the Ffos Las opening night. Tom's many friends in Pembrokeshire were thrilled to see him come back to win the Welsh National on Dream Alliance for trainer Philip Hobbs. The 24 year old nephew to the great Irish trainer Aidan, burst on the scene in 2006/7 when he set a new record for a conditional jockey  with 107 winners, and was so, so narrowly beaten in the Grand National on our horse Mckelvey in his first ride in the great race.

JAMIE MOORE   27 year old Jamie has over 400 jumps winners to his name, including 30+ for us in recent seasons. He's based in Sussex where his father Gary, himself a former jockey, trains both jumpers and flat horses. Brother Ryan is a former champion jockey on the flat, and younger brother Josh also rides jumpers. Jamie, a former champion conditional, smashed two vertebrae in a fall when he just 19. Today he's renowned for his strong and persistent riding style
