Our Team and Our Jockeys

No enterprise can be successful without a strong and dedicated team behind them. We are fortunate to have such a team and this page will give you the chance to meet them.

GARREN SKONE -  Assistant Trainer:

Former point to point rider and long standing stable manager who keeps the yard on the ball 24/7.  Special interest off-duty is another kind of horse power - Garren is a keen motor racing fan with his own custom built rally car.

DONAL DEVEREUX:
23 year old Donal, who hails from Wexford, was the stables amateur jockey for two years before turning professional last year. He made an early impression getting a great tune out of Take The Stand, winning four times on the veteran chaser. Was riding winners with regularity last term but his season was interrupted by two injuries. First he broke his collarbone, then Donal had a really horrible fall at Doncaster, suffering concussion, cheek and jawbone injuries which kept him out of the saddle for two months, until his return to race riding in May - when he promply rode two winners on his first two rides back for the yard. A clutch of recent winners has taken him over the 40 winner mark - so his allowance is now reduced to the minimum of 3 lbs.

OLLY DAYMAN:
Conditional jockey Olly plays a full role in the stable - riding work and “doing” his horses. Claims
7 lbs at the races, and has delighted his many Yet-Y-Rhug friends by chalking up some winners this year.

 MICHAEL BYRNE:

22 year-old Michael, from Cashel in Tipperary, where his father trains, joined as the stable amateur last year. Rode more than a dozen pointing winners in Ireland.  Scored his first winner for the yard in March -  20/1 shot Big Time Billy, and made it a double success on the same horse in the valuable Listed bumper at Aintree. Won two hunter chases on Take The Stand at Cheltenham and Aintree. Has proved to be a fluent interviewee on TV! Has recently joined the ranks of the professionals as a conditional.

DAVE UNDERWOOD

Former point-to-point jockey. Known for his strength with strong horses.

EMMA REES - Head Girl:

Emma clocks up thousands of miles each year driving horses to the races and supervising runners - as well as her regular stable duties and riding work.  Won countless awards for 'Best Turned Out horse'.

ELERI BOWEN:

Has a soft spot for the veteran Mr Ed who simply loves her, and she gets the best out of him on every run up the gallops.

DARRYL CAHILL

Darryl, 19 from Dublin, has recently joined us after completing a jockey course in Kildare.

HANNAH BRINKWORTH:

19 year old from Barry, Glamorgan, says she especially likes supervising the horses' visits to the spa.

EMMA LEARMONT:

From Mathry, as well as her stable horses, Emma has her own mare Kizzy to care for in the fields close by.

Farrier: SHAUN GAMBLE

Special mention to Susan Barnett and Jo Stephens in Financial Administration

Our Jockeys

As well as our stable jockeys, we also use various riders depending on who is available, including most frequently:

TOM O'BRIEN
A regular rider for the yard, with over 100 winners on our horses, Tom was sadly forced to sit on the sidelines for almost six months last year after breaking his leg when thrown in the paddock at Hereford just days after triumphing on stable winner Quattrocento on the Ffos Las opening night last June. Tom's many friends in Pembrokeshire were thrilled to see him come back to win the Welsh National in December on Dream Alliance for trainer Philip Hobbs. 22 year old Tom, nephew to the great Irish trainer Aidan, burst on the scene in 2006/7 when set a new record for a conditional jockey riding 107 winners, and was so, so narrowly beaten in the Grand National on Mckelvey in his first ride in the great race.
