Garran Skone - Assistant Trainer
Garran has been working for Peter & Karen for 14 years and is a key team player in the management of injuries and healthcare on the yard. Garran was one of the first members of staff that came to work when it was just Peter & Karen and has been a crucial member in the team. Garran is truly dedicated to his work and explains that it is not just a job but a way of life. “It’s a life style for me, I work seven days a week 365 days a year, Peter makes it worth my while.”

Emma Rees - Head Girl
Emma has been working for the yard for 2 years and is a very experienced rider. “This job has made me stay in racing, the hours are better, it’s good pay and I never stop learning. We all take it in turns to learn about the new devices Peter uses like the leg saver, the equine spa, humidifier and it makes the job more interesting particularly when you see the horses develop and improve their form.”

Rhiannon Rees - Head Girl
Rhiannon has been working for Peter & Karen for almost 4 years and was previously in a Point to Point yard. “I enjoy every aspect of my job, it’s so varied and a great place to work, Peter is very open about the horses health and he makes us feel like we’re part of a really special team.”

Heledd Phillips - PA
Heledd joined us in the summer she will be working as Peters PA, mainly looking after owners and ensuring the day to day running of our office, Heledd worked for us years ago but in that time she has had a baby and has been working in racing journalism so we are very pleased to welcome her to our team.

Paul Sheldrake
Paul has been working at the yard for 3 years. Paul schools many of the young horses. A very experienced jockey he first rode around the Grand National track a couple of years ago and explains it was one of the most exhilarating rides he’s ever ridden. Paul also does his fair share of the driving for the yard and really enjoys his job. “It’s a great place to work, so relaxed yet we all work hard and pull together. Peter and Karen are excellent to work for.”

Catrin Eynon
Catrin has been working for the yard for 3 years. Catrin came straight to the yard after her A levels and thoroughly enjoys every aspect of her job. “Peter and Karen are friendly and easy to work for, our communication is excellent, if we have any worries, Karen is so approachable and easy to talk to which I think is important. Here we all pull together and we are all like a big family.” Catrin particularly enjoys the healthcare aspect, and her favourite horse is Ballycassidy. “He’s such a fantastic horse in every way. So positive in his approach he has a big heart and will do anything for you.” Catrin will always be the one sweeping the yard keeping it spotless.

Rebecca Francis
Rebecca is now part time and fits her hours around her two children. A single Mum Rebecca says that Peter and Karen have been extremely supportive employers and it’s like a big family. “We all get on so well, the horses are happy and it’s a very relaxed atmosphere to work in. What I particularly like about working here is that we all ride every horse. No matter how famous or important he is, it’s great to walk in to the yard in the morning and be on the board to ride one of the favourites for the next big race that week.”

Ginny Davies
Ginny has only been working at Peter & Karen’s for 2 months and is learning so much. “Everyone is so helpful and I’m learning so much every day.”

Rebecca James
Rebecca works for Peter & Karen during her school holidays and enjoys riding out and watching the therapy side. “I am learning so much, I can’t wait to work here full time.”

Donald Deveraux - Amateur Jockey
Don has recently joined the yard and has been Point to Pointing with William Cod. He’s had 58 rides as an amateur in Ireland. Don has competed in affiliated show jumping in Ireland. Karen adds they are delighted with him so far, “He rides really well, and he gets on really well with the youngsters. He’ll be getting a fair few rides over the next few months.”

Tom O’Brien -  Jockey
2nd Jockey to Philip Hobbs, Tom has been riding for Peter and Karen for over a year and thoroughly enjoys making the trip from Somerset to Pembrokeshire to ride out. “Peter has done a lot for me, he was my main supply of winners last year.” Peter’s exceptionally persistent with horses. He will never give up on a horse and he’ll always get the best tune out of them. He places them really well he’s got a good string of horses for this year. It’s a really good yard to be part of.”

 

Bernie Wharf - Conditional
We are delighted that Bernie has joined the team from Henrietta's yard. Bernie said he is delighted to be part of such a great team of horses "Hen is delighted that I have had this opportunity and I am really looking forward to working with such a strong team of that Peter & Karen have."
 
Olly Dayman - Conditional
Olly 23 joins us from Dr. Pritchard's yard and has had 3 wins under rules. Olly is from Bristol and is looking forward to our summer jumps season "It's a fantastic opportunity to work here and everyone is so supportive."

Willie Bryan, Pre-Training
The first stages of a racehorse’s education are crucial to its success on the racecourse. Based in Shrewsbury, Willie Bryan has been pre training Peter & Karen’s young horses for over 12 years. Willie is Karen’s brother and was an amateur race rider for 20 years. With experience in the show ring and eventing, he is a professional ‘Nagsman’ creating an excellent foundation for the horse’s first stages of training.  Karen explains that when they send a horse to Willie, they are completely confident that the horses are correctly mouthed to a high standard, and brought on in a way which is crucial to the horse’s success throughout their career.

Willie is also excellent with behavioural problems and Peter and Karen use him as an advisor to any problematic horses they may have. Willie is contactable on: 01743 891 212
